Al Novey was honored to work with amazing filmmaker Nicol Ragland for her story about Victoria Smith , age 14, who suffers from cystic fibrosis yet is determined to be the first female, black barrel racing champion. Okie Noodling II follows up on the stars of the first Okie Noodling documentary and introduces us to a new set of eccentric hand fishermen.

Since the spring of 2015, we have held multiple creative residencies per year (excluding 2021, due to the global pandemic). The original idea was to provide creative people with a place to live, a stipend for time, for materials, for travel and more. In exchange, these artists gave of themselves to the community they either already lived in or the community they visited. Our residencies focused on visual arts for the first five years and then we shifted our focus to include music as well. We have held local residencies as well, where artists, musicians, film makers and more came in to work with our after school kids.

In July of 2015, Lance McDaniel travelled to Savannah, GA for one month to edit the short film he shot in OKC, “Swirl.” A story of a young gay man’s first crush in high school, told through dance, the film proved to be heartfelt and moving. Lance worked with Josh “Jabberpics” Branstetter while in Savannah and just two short years later, Josh came to OKC for a residency, helping to create a film and photography bridge between the two cities. We were so proud to support this important and beautiful project. Lance has been a tireless supporter of SixTwelve from the beginning and is now our board president. We appreciate all that Lance has given to the arts in Oklahoma and beyond.
